La place du PS dans l’interlangue d’apprenants anglophones avancés Louis de Saussure is professor at the Department of Language and Communication of the University of Neuchâtel, where he founded a research group on semantics and pragmatics. He teaches also at the University of Geneva and is associate researcher at the University of Lugano. He was lecturer at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Texas at Austin, invited reader at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris) and visiting scholar at the University College London and at the French CNRS. He wrote numerous articles on tenses and aspect and a book dedicated to pragmatic analysis of French past tenses, Temps et pertinence. Jacques Moeschler, is professor and chair of the department of linguistics of the University of Geneva, where he has taught formal semantics and pragmatics for over 20 years, with a focus on French. In particular, he has published numerous articles on French tenses, connectives, negation and lexicon (notably causal). He authored twelve books, among which Argumentation et conversation (Hatier, 1985), Modélisation du dialogue (Hermès, 1989), Dictionnaire encyclopédique de pragmatique (Seuil, 1984, with Anne Reboul), La pragmatique aujourd’hui (Seuil, 1998, with Anne Reboul), Pragmatique du discours (Armand Colin, 1998, with Anne Reboul) and Introduction à la linguistique contemporaine (Armand Colin , 1997, 2000, avec Antoine Auchlin). Genoveva Puskas is Research Director at the Department of Linguistics of the University of Geneva. She has done research on the syntax of Hungarian, especially the left peripheral domain, which includes hierarchically determined positions for Focus, Topic, wh-phrases and negation. She is currently working on the interpretation of quantifiers and the relation between the interpretation and the syntactic positions, with an emphasis on quantification in Hungarian, but in comparison with other languages. She is also investigating various aspects of negation in Hungarian, such as the nature of n-words, the problem of syntactic licensing and double negation. This has led her to work on the interactions between quantification and negation, also in French, English, Hungarian and Bellinzonese (a Swiss Italian dialect).
